Oscar Sevilla Ribera Provisionally Suspended by UCI

release by the UCI

September 16, 2010 (Aigle, Switzerland) – Earlier today, the UCI advised Spanish rider Oscar Sevilla Ribera that he is provisionally suspended. The decision to provisionally suspend Mr Sevilla was made in response to a report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Bogota indicating an Adverse Analytical Finding of Hydroxyethyl starch in a urine sample collected from him at an in-competition test at the Vuelta a Colombia on 15 August 2010.

The provisional suspension remains in force until a hearing panel convened by the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) determines whether Mr Sevilla has committed an anti-doping rule violation under Article 21 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules.

Mr Sevilla has the right to request and attend the analyses of his B sample.

Under the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules, the UCI is unable to provide any additional information at this time.

Furthermore, following a request made by the UCI to the RFEC on 7th December 2009 to open proceedings against the Spanish rider Eladio Jimenez Sanchez, the Spanish Federation has sanctioned Mr Jimenez Sanchez to a two-year suspension and a € 8,400 (11,300 CAD) fine.
