Olympian Lori-Ann Muenzer On Board for Ride to Conquer Cancer

October 24, 2008 (Calgary, AB) – Olympic gold medallist Lori-Ann Muenzer was on hand for the launch of Calgary’s Ride to Conquer Cancer (RTCC) for 2009 as the event goes national with Montreal and Vancouver also launching rides following Toronto’s huge success at the inaugural RTCC in 2008.

The kick off announcement took place in downtown Calgary on Wednesday, October 22, with Muenzer lending her support and committing to ride the event as well. According to Muenzer,”to be part of a bicycle ride and help make changes to make cancer minimal or knock it right out, would be fantastic. It’s an outstanding cause – I too have had family members affected by cancer so this cause is very close to me. As an organization they’re making changes for the better and it’s great to be part of it.”

The 2009 event benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation will take place in Calgary, June 27-28, with riders heading towards the Rockies while covering a distance of 200kms. The ride will cover 100km each day and riders will enjoy a fully support with all food and refreshments provided along the route. Riders will enjoy a night of camping in between the 2-day event while traversing one of the most picturesque cycling routes in Canada.

The Toronto RTCC for The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, begins Saturday, June 12, 2009 and ends in scenic Niagara Falls the following day. Riders in British Columbia will travel from Vancouver to Seattle June 20-21, with money raised benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. From July 11 to 12, riders will pedal from Montreal to Quebec City to benefit The Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital Foundation.

Participants must fund raise a minimum of $2,500 and all of the proceeds go to cancer research. Muenzer will be offering online coaching to help everyday people get in shape for the ride.
