OCA Releases Competition Guide

release by the OCA

April 02, 2012 (Toronto, ON) – On April 1st, 2012, the OCA will be launching its own Companion Guide to the rules of road racing. Focused primarily on road cycling initially, this guide is meant to align the international and national rules with the realities of provincial level racing. Most of the rules in the Companion Guide are restatements of current OCA member policy so there isn’t a large shift from the ways things have been running in the past, but we recommend that everyone take a moment to go through the guide to see what’s inside.

Please note that there are two rules that will be a focus for members this year:

1) 1.3.031 N) At all times when participating in or preparing for an event held in Canada, all licensees who are mounted on a bicycle shall wear a securely fastened helmet that meets a recognized cycling standard for the specific discipline.

This is a national rule in the CCA Companion guide, but please be sure to see the OCA Companion section XII for how we apply it.

2) 12.1.040 (6) O) Not reporting to a commissaire after dropping out of race (1.3.080N)

This year, you MUST report to a commissaire that you are not finishing a race, every single time. This is an important part of the race and must be followed. Please take the time in between dropping out and going back to your car to notify a commissaire in a way that’s clearly understood.
