July 14, 2010 – Here’s the latest news from the OCA including a 2010 Road Provincials Announcement, a mechanic is needed for the Tour de l’Abitibi by July 15 at 12 noon, and Team Ontario is announced for Tour de Rimouski and Tour l’ Abitibi Rimouksi (cadet project).

2010 Provincial Road Championships
As many of you are aware the championships will be in Elliot Lake this year. The organizer is the City of Elliot Lake with support from the OCA. This is the 8th year for this event and we have changed it up significantly to make it worthy of your attendance. All of the road courses have been extended to include new terrain. The Criterium will run in the opposite direction for a whole new challenge. The Hill Climb remains as it has always been a tough uphill charge.

There are 3 races on that weekend and one entry fee for all. For the masters all of the competitions are aged based – just like the good old days. There are provincial medals for the road race and the hill climb and based on the GC a cash prize pool.

I polled a lot of members last year to get an idea on what they liked and did not like. I heard about the road course not being selective, the poor attendance at the pasta dinner, the lack of accommodation and the long drive.

For 2010

– a new challenging out and back road race
– changed the direction of the crit course
– take advantage of the local restaurants for dinner in place of the pasta dinner
– we have advised members to book early and there is a brand new Hotel in town to choose from – BOOK NOW if you have not already done so. There are enough rooms in town if you book early.
– With regret the drive is the same – car pool with friends and or team mates! Extend your trip by taking a holiday in the area

Mechanic Needed for Abitibi
The Ontario Cycling Association is looking for a qualified mechanic to attend Tour l’Abitibi in Quebec from July 18-July 26. Compensation is provided. If you are interested please contact Brendan at the OCA at racing@ontariocycling.org or phone 416-426-7401. Deadline for interest is Thursday July 15 at 12 Noon.
