OCA Notice: Important Notes for the Upcoming Road Race

April 4, 2007 — Here are some important notes for all riders concerning the upcoming Good Friday road race.

Race Numbers
Numbers will be handed out at the race. The numbers are to be returned at the end of the race.

Issuing Licences
We have a backlog of licences that are missing information, waivers, payment etc. The OCA office has been very diligent in processing applications in a timely fashion, calling and emailing regarding deficiencies however we are finding a significant delay in obtaining the requested information. If you have been contacted give us the courtesy of a return call or email. Our cut-off time for processing existing applications is Wednesday, April 4, at noon. After that time if we do not have the correct info, waiver or payment you will not have a licence. You may be able to race in some categories on a one-day permit. Our goal is to have all applications received with the correct information ready for pickup at the Good Friday road race. At the last event numerous members were astounded that their licence was not ready for pickup – they had applied online and paid to take advantage of the early discount but only sent the waiver in the day before the event. Please plan ahead!

Keep in mind that it usually takes 2 weeks to process an application. There is a rush option for turnaround in 2 business day for those that are really in a hurry.

Licencing
The introduction of the Ability categories for road racing is causing a little confusion. A number of members have taken out licences for specific ability categories yet have registered to race in a different ability category. When contacted they indicate that the entered category is correct and the licence is wrong. For the most part licences for the ability based categories are based on self selection and we provide a licence with the desired category.

Ability Level
There is a relationship with the old system and the new ability categories however it is not absolute i.e. Master A was strictly age first with no consideration of ability and M1 is strictly ability with no age restrictions. In theory the M1 will be filled with the elite of the former Master A,B,C categories. Keep in mind Master A is not M1 and Master B is not M2. A number of racers believe that A=1, B=2, C=3 etc and that is not the case. A former Master A could actually choose to race in either M1 or M2 depending on his own perceived ability. Please be sure of this and ensure that your licence has the correct coding. The ability codes are located on the bottom edge of your licence. The codes are M1,M2,M3

National and UCI Codes
All licences carry a number of licensing codes that reflect UCI and National codes. They represent the categories you must ride in for UCI and National level races. In Ontario we use the National codes and Ability codes for many of our races. The National codes are also typically used for out of Province races. Please ensure that you have checked your licence to see that the category on the licence is correct. Your UCI and National codes are located on the upper left portion of the licence. These represent the category you must race in at certain events. With some categories i.e. Senior 1,3,3,4 an additional code is printed on the bottom ñ S1,S2,S3,S4.

Race Entry
It is very important that you understand your licence category and the categories that you are permitted to race in. The assigned category on your UCI licence is the one that you must race in. If you have registered for the wrong category you may find yourself not racing as you have missed the start time for the correct category.
