February 23, 2004 – Role: The role of the Board, on behalf of members of the OCA and the cycling community in general, is to work to promote the sport of cycling and to make cycling in Ontario safe, fair, and accessible for all. In addition, the Board guides a framework for developing promising high performance racers. The Board has a fiduciary role to ensure that the affairs of the Association and its resources are managed in a prudent and responsible manner.
Responsibilities of positions either open or coming up for term as defined in our by-laws:
1. The Vice-President Development shall have responsibility for all technical matters relating to cycling; shall oversee development programs for athletes and officials; and shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be established by the Board.2. The Vice-President Recreation will be changed to the Vice-President, BMX – shall have responsibility for BMX racing and development activities.
3. The Vice-President of Administration/Finance shall assume the responsibilities of the President when he or she is absent, shall perform all duties assigned by the President, shall oversee the general administration of the Corporation, shall cause financial statements to be prepared as required and shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be established by the Board.
Election: The Board of Directors is elected by the general membership at the Annual General membership. The Board consists of six Directors — President, Vice President-Administration/Finance, Vice President-High Performance, Vice President-Development, Vice President-Recreation, and Club Liaison. Our by-laws provide for a seventh director, the immediate past-President, who assumes such position automatically upon the election of the incoming
President: The members of the Board of Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting, held each March. The process for election is outlined in the OCA By-Laws. All members and clubs have the opportunity to vote for the Directors. The positions of President and Vice President-High Performance are elected in odd numbered years. The positions of Vice President-Administration/Finance, Vice President-Development, and Vice President-Recreation, are elected in even numbered years, including 2004.The Club Liaison is elected by the Club Presidents at the Winter Club Presidents Meeting.
