June 13, 2007 – How can you argue with 28 degrees, a light wind and a brand new DH course. Canada’s largest DH and 4X race series came back to Kelso June 10 with a vengeance and posted the third largest DH attendance in Ontario history. I want to thank all the participants and parents for making this happen. We also had our first “Women Race for free” event and we doubled our numbers from last race so it was a great improvement.
The racing was something new for Kelso. Gone was the old style super smooth course and in its place we erected a “mini bogi” course, filled with multiple rock drops, high speed flat corners and, of course, lots of rock gardens to bounce you around.
In the elite men’s final it was a shootout as riders crossed the line, would anyone break the one-minute mark! As the Pro’s made their way down the one-minute mark was getting closer and closer, when Justin Brown (Canada Cup DH series Leader) eclipsed the line at 58.639, Derek Cowell got close but was just out with a 59.285 , third was Peter McLean just a shade over with a 59.507.
