July 17, 2005 – Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (USA, Subaru-Gary Fisher) and Susan Haywood (USA, Trek-VW) sprinted to the top in the men’s and women’s short track races. Horgan-Kobelski had a bit of luck on his side, when he managed to get around a group of lapped riders unencumbered, while Liam Killeen (GBR, Specialized) and Geoff Kabush (CAN, Maxxis) got stuck in traffic. Killeen and Kabush finished second and third, respectively. Three other Canadians made it into the top 10: Chris Sheppard (CAN, Haro) was sixth, Seamus McGrath (CAN, Haro) placed seventh and Peter Wedge (CAN, Kona-Les Gets) rolled into eighth.

In the women’s race, Haywood took control from the start and broke away from the field, riding almost the entire race out front on her own. Dara Marks-Marino (USA, Ford-Specialized), who finished second, managed to pull the gap in to two seconds at the end. Third place, Hanusova (CZE, Luna Women’s Team), was over 10 seconds back from the two escapees. Kiara Bisaro (CAN, Gears Racing) logged the best Canadian result, with 10th place.
