NORBA #3 – XC Short Track Report

June 19, 2006 (Mount Snow, VT) – Canada’s Geoff Kabush (CAN, Maxxis), winner of last weekend’s Pro Men’s NORBA short track, missed the winning move in yesterday’s short track race at NORBA #3 at Mount Snow, Vermont. In fact, everyone missed the move made by race winner Ryan Trebon (USA, Kona/Les Gets) early in the race. The American separated himself from his chasers and managed to hold the insurmountable lead of 20 to 30 seconds throughout the high-paced off-road circuit race. Kabush won the bunch sprint for second place, with Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (USA, Subaru/Gary Fisher) finishing third.

Ricky Federau (CAN, Team R.A.C.E.) was the only other Canadian to crack the top 10 with a 10th-place ride.

Canadians were shut out of the podium in the Pro Women’s race with Catharine Pendrel (CAN, Norco) delivering the nation’s best result – 12th place. Katerina Nash (CZE, Luna Women’s Team), Willow Koerber (USA, Subaru/Gary Fisher) and Susan Haywood (USA, Trek-VW) took the top three spots out of the 11 riders that pulled away from the rest of the pack in the first bit of the race. Nash, who won the short track last weekend, worked with her Luna teammates and made the decisive move on the final lap to take the win.
