NMBS #3 – XC Preview

May 4, 2007 (Fontana, California) – The third stop of the NMBS series heats up in Fontana, California on Saturday morning with the pro men’s and women’s xc races. The women are scheduled to race three laps, 33.6 kms (21 miles) starting at 11:00 am PST. The men will race four laps 44.8 kms (28 miles), starting at 2pm PST.

The course is located in a residential area outside Los Angeles and skirts the Jurupa mountains. With 324m of climbing per lap the course is nicely broken up with small fast sweeping descents. Course conditions have changed considerably in the last few days with hundreds of riders out on the route. As the climbs get cleaner and easier the descents get more rutted and deep with sand.

The Luna Chix (Gould, Vanlandingham, Nash) are all present this weekend and looking for another podium sweep. They will have new challengers from Canadians Alison Sydor (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) and Wendy Simms (Kona). Other Canadians in attendance are Trish Sinclair (Scott), Catharine Pendrel (Norco) and Christy Love (Scott/Ambleside Cycle).

On the men’s side Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) will be looking to maintain his NMBS series lead with a third consecutive win. Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru-Gary Fisher) and Max Plaxton (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) will be there to challenge him.

Missing last weekend (NMBS #2), Canada’s Seamus McGrath (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) and Neil Kindree (Kona) as well as US riders Jeremiah Bishop, Adam Craig and Tod Wells will be battling for top spots. Other Canucks racing for top 10 positions will be Kris Sneddon (Kona), Roddi Lega (United Cycles) and Matt Toulouse (Maxxis).
