May 6, 2007 (Fontana, California) — Georgia Gould (USA) Luna Women’s MTB Team and Ryan Trebon (USA) Kona took the men’s and women’s Short Track races today at NMBS #3 in Fontana, California. Canada’s Alison Sydor (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) and Max Plaxton (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) each came third as the top Canucks in their respective races.

In the women’s event, a breakaway including Gould, Katerina Nash (Cze) Luna Women’s MTB Team, Sydor, Katie Compton (USA) Spike and Willow Koerber (USA) Subaru-Gary Fisher who got off the front early in the race. Gould attacked late in the race and the others were unable to respond. It then became a fierce fight for second place with Sydor and Nash pulling away from Compton and Koerber. Nash nipped Sydor to take second spot.

In the men’s race, Ryan Trebon (USA) Kona-Les Gets didn’t let his teammates’ misfortune get in his way – Canada’s Kris Sneddon/Kona-Les Gets and Neal Kindree/Kona-Les Gets), pulled out early with a flat and a mechanical, respectively while Barry Wicks (USA) Kona-Les Gets struggled after riding incredibly well for the last few races.

After riding the majority of the race with Todd Wells (USA) Targetraining, Geoff Kabush (Can) Maxxis, Plaxton, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (USA) Subaru-Gary Fisher, Adam Craig (USA) Giant and Jermiah Bishop (USA) Trek-VW, Trebon attacked with only a couple of laps to go and quickly opened up a 20-second gap. Kabush, a renowned short track racer, was unable to respond as he apparently crashed at some point during the final part of the race.
