June 10, 2007 (Champéry, Switzerland) — Matti Lehikoinen (Fin) Honda G Cross has won the Elite Men’s World Cup DH #2 as the rain played the protagonist in today’s DH World Cup drama. About 40 riders into the competition, the skies opened up and the course quickly deteriorated to the point of being nearly impossible to get down without crashing.
Times went through the stratosphere and only Sam Hill (AUS) Monster Iron Horse could crack the top 10 after the rain came. Even the legendary Nicolas Vouilloz (Fra) was no match for mother nature, as he was the 5th to last rider to go and was 42 seconds back at the split in the heaviest rain of the day.
