November 10, 2010 (Curacao, Dutch Antilles) – Check out these photos of the Drone used at the Amstel Curacao Race last weekend. The Drone, which was piloted by remote control from the back of the lead vehicle, followed the riders around the 1.8 km crit course for the first lap. After the first lap the pilot then walked around the course taking video of the riders from various locations. Race organizer Leo Van Vliet hopes to use the Drone for the finish up the Cauberg at the famous UCI ProTour Amstel Gold Race in Holland on Sunday, April 17, 2011. This could be the future of covering cycling events, replacing costly and cumbersome helicopters. Van Vliet feels that the definite advantage of the drone is that is can get closer to the riders than a helicopter can.
