November 19, 2018 (Milton, ON) – National Cycling Institute (NCIM) is a not-for-profit corporation formed to advance cycling in Milton and across Canada. Its mandates are to operate the track cycling programs at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (MNCC), operate a high performance youth training academy, and engage in child and youth outreach cycling programs to build a strong base of cycling participants in Canada.
Position Summary
NCIM is looking to fill two board positions effectively immediately at the December 17, 2018 Annual General Meeting. The NCIM board meets four to five times a year with potential for more frequent telephone updates between meetings.
The NCIM is an active board. A prospective board member must work as a volunteer on projects from time to time to help carry out the NCIM mandate. This could include interfacing with the Executive Director, the Town of Milton, or other key stakeholders.
General Board duties
- Yearly review of the general format of track cycling programs and the timing of these programs
- Quarterly review of Key Performance Indicators
- Regular review of financial statements
- Provide regular guidance to the Executive Director as to how NCIM performance can be improved along a number of aspects.
- Semi-annual review of the performance of the Executive Director
- Interface with key stakeholders when necessary including the Town of Milton, The Ontario Cycling Association, and the Canadian Cycling Association
- Evaluate programs for potential risks and recommend actions to address
- Develop sponsorships and partnerships for the NCIM
- Maintain current “best practices” and knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and related policies and standard operating procedures for similar entities as NCIM
- Meet board governance requirements (in accordance with NCIM bylaws, NCIM incorporation documents and applicable laws)
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge and experience with multi-discipline cycling an asset
- Outreach, event promotion, and consensus building an asset
- Strong interest and personal commitment to cycling and in particular track cycling
- Commitment to the mandates of NCIM including acting as an “ambassador” to help NCIM achieve its mandates
- Competent administrative skills utilizing the most common applications of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Experience working with youth in a recreational setting an asset
- Able to demonstrate effective governance practices, business planning knowledge and expertise
- Excellent interpersonal, public relations and communication skills
- Knowledge of budget preparation, financial control and risk management an asset
