July 30, 2003 – The NAS-TRACK League Championships are Friday this Friday night at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills. It just doesn't get any better than this! The racing action has been heating up all season and if you were at the track last Friday night you can certainly attest to that. Last week the crowd was treated to a display of track racing that couldn't have been scripted to include more suspense and pure racing action. From the super-smooth exchanges of veteran Madison racers, Mark & Ron St. John, to the savvy tactics of Jonathan Hughes, spectators were pumped all night as they cheered on their favorites.
Rippin Ronnie Sink started the evening with a seven degree shoulder separation, and after repeated hand slings with his teammate, Cullen Watkins, he finished the night with it separated by about a foot and a half! And it's not like Cullen didn't leave his mark on the evening's competition. Just check out the first turn to see the remnants of Cullen's unique exit from the Miss & Out Race! The crowd also was treated to some unexpected bursts of speed by NAS-TRACK newcomers, Steve Mlujeak of the U.S. Coast Guard and 2003 In-Line Skating National Champion, Terry Palmer who unleashed a surprise attack at the end of the evening's final Madison. Where'd he get that afterburner anyway??!!! And where did that cheering section of his come from??
They'll all be there this Friday, August 1 beginning at 7pm to battle it out for the season's NAS-TRACK Racing League Championship. An expected 8 teams will take to the boards, including Ray Dybowski, newly crowned Michigan State Road Race Champion, along with Rob Akers, Dave Koesel and all your favorite Madison Studs. Bring a chair or a blanket, but get there early to assure a good spot to check out the action. And don't be shy about going down on the infield through the new tunnel to see the action from a different vantage point and meet the racers.
The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is located at the end of John R Rd. in Rochester Hills. Admission to the park is a modest $5, (That's $8 Canadian for Rob Good who comes from Toronto every Friday night to compete) and the racing is free of charge. Say “Hello” to my Mom & sister in the Fun Foods concession trailer and try one of their tasty 'pursuit chicken sandwiches or 'miss & out' hot dogs before the action gets underway. The world famous NAS-TRACK Pit Crew Band will be on hand as always, so get up, get out, and get ready for the best racing action of the season!
