May 5, 2007 (Nanaimo, BC) — The 2007 BC Seniors Games will take place in Nanaimo, BC, Sept 12-15. Some 3,500 BC seniors, aged 55 and over, are expected to compete in 28 sports – including road cycling and mountain biking – over the four days.

The venue chosen for mountain biking is the Kinsman Participark (Beban Park) on Bowen Road according to the event’s web site – www.nanaimoseniorsgames.com. Information is still sparse, however, about the road cycling race where the only posted details are “TBA.”

Pedal reached General Manager Trish Smith at the Nanaimo Seniors Games 2007 office for more details, and also spoke to organizer, Cory Pickett, at Oak Bay Cycles (Nanaimo), but the route has not yet been finalized.

Smith mentioned that each of the 12 zones in the province has their own contact person, whose name and coordinates can be found on the BC Seniors Games website at www.bcseniorsgames.org. She added that participants can register online. A map indicating the 12 geographical zones is listed under “zone webs” while the corresponding contact persons are listed under “admin.” The deadline for registering is July 15.

Event sponsors include: BC Hydro, Save on Foods, Island Hearing Services. Partner games include the Fort St John 2007 Northern Winter Games and the Powell River 2007 Disability Games July 11-15.
