September 5, 2003 (Lugano, SUI) – The return of Anne Caroline Chausson to the elite women's race scene has certainly stirred things up. Australia's Katrina Miller was leading the women's 4X World Cup upon entering the Worlds, and was the main shoe-in for the gold this week. Chausson has spent a good portion of the season doing more freeride events and nursing a hand injury. She hasn't been at many of the World Cup races this season to contest Miller's winning streak. Despite that, Chausson claimed the gold in the 4X finals, and Miller took the silver. 4X newcomer, American Jill Kinter, took the bronze.

Canadians Michelle Dumaresq and Claire Buchar put in a good effort in the women's 4X event at the MTB Worlds. After qualifying 12th and 13th respectively, Dumaresq finished 10th and Buchar 15th in the finals.
