August 30, 2002 – Canada’s National Team was not too stressed about
yesterday’s downhill seeding run results. Top Canadian finishers in the
senior men’s and women’s category were Michelle Dumaresq (25th) and Dustin
Adams (35th). Two of Canada’s female downhillers, Claire Buchar and Cassidy
Johnson were sick and only managed to make their start and roll down the
course for an official seeding time.

The Canadian team is getting no “flack” from other individuals regarding
Michelle Dumaresq, a post-op transsexual woman on Canada’s National Team.
According to Team Manager Warren Lister, everybody has been awesome. “Just
like everybody else, she (Michelle) is trying to compete. We’re here to
help her.” Dumaresq was recently approved by the UCI to race in the
women’s downhill category. She was issued a license earlier this year
however a petition was issued to the UCI to ban her from further
competition. The UCI upheld her Canadian licence and allowed her to compete.

There are no Canadian riders who are registered in the 4X event so the
main focus for the downhill team will be their final runs on Saturday.

Next up for Canada will be the junior men’s and women’s cross-country
races tommorow, Friday August 30, 2002.
