July 24, 2003 (Whistler, BC) – The junior women's downhill race saw last year's national champion, Brook Baker (Norco) return again to capture the title at the Tim Hortons MTB Nationals in Whistler, BC last weekend. Her run averaged just less than forty-nine kilometers per hour, knocking over thirty seconds off second-placed rider, American Katie Holden.
“My run was pretty smooth. I lost my pedal a few times, nearly crashed a few times, but I made it down okay. It was as smooth as it could have been and I'm pretty happy with it, especially after this morning, I was pretty tired going into the run.” The Norco rider competed earlier that day in the junior women's cross-country race where she finished sixth, less than three hours before her downhill race.
The junior men's times were pretty tight and there was only five seconds separating the new champion, Manitoba rider, Jamie Biluk (Olympia Cycle/Sombrio) from the other riders on the podium. With an average speed of just over sixty-five kilometers per hour, Biluk pulled of the title with some room to breathe. Quebec riders, Sean Brown (Intense Cycles) and Dominic Provost were within two seconds of each other, capturing silver and bronze, respectively.
