November 28, 2003 – Mountain Bike TV which made a splash in August 2003 with its $16,000 prize list sponsorship of the NORBA series finals, has high hopes for its Florida-based, five- event marathon racing series, which will aim to provide a shot in the arm to pro mountain bike racing by combining a fun, festival atmosphere on-site with a made-for-TV-and-DVD reality show.
Executive Producer, Joe Stone said, “We're really excited to offer simple and fast online registration to make it easy for people to get on board with the 9 to 5 Race Day Series. ItÃs a great chance to get in some warm-weather racing in the early season on new trails, and watch top pros compete in a unique format!”
The following is a rundown of the dates, locations, and opportunities offered by the venues. Check www.mtbtv.com for online registration information.
9 to5 Race Day #1, Job Interview / Blue Monday, 1/24/2004, Deerfield Beach Southeast Florida. These single-track trails are probably the most scenic of the parks in South Florida. The majority of the bike trails are tree lined and protected from the heat of the South Florida sun.
9 to5 Race Day #1 Job Interview / Blue Monday, 1/24/2004, Deerfield Beach Southeast Florida. These single-track trails are probably the most scenic of the parks in South Florida. The majority of the bike trails are tree lined and protected from the heat of the South Florida sun. At one time, this park was mined as a rock quarry leaving large crater-like holes that filled with rainwater to become the lakes we see today. Other park amenities include a beach and water park, towrope water skiing, camping (the park will provide tents), a skate park, and large picnic and concert areas. www.broward.org/parks/pri01800.htm
9 to5 Race Day #2, Idle Tuesday, 2/21/2004, Jacksonville Northeast Florida. Bike next to the Atlantic Ocean! This park has something for everyone. The mountain bike trails offer miles of single-track through dense salt- marsh woods. Technical, rooted sections, are complemented by fast-flowing trails. At one point, a dunes section takes riders to the ocean' s edge. A wide range of additional amenities includes a lake with fishing and boating, camping, a water park, a vineyard, and, of course, a beautiful beach. Close to Jacksonville and abundant additional recreational activities. www.coj.net/Departments/Parks+and+Recreation/Recreation+Activities/Hanna+Park/de fault.htm
9 to5 Race Day #3, Hump-Day Wednesday, 3/6/2004, North Florida. A private park only 30 miles from the Georgia border. Bike along the historic and beautiful Suwannee River! Mountain bike trails are being designed and developed specifically for this series by experienced mountain bike course setters. A wide range of amenities includes cabins, camping, RV hookups, a restaurant, swimming pool, horse riding, a dinner raft ride, craft village, canoeing, amphitheatres, and more. www.musicliveshere.com
9 to5 Race Day #4, Almost There Thursday, 4/3/2004, Central-west Florida, southeast of Tampa. A newer park that has only hosted a few races, the unique topography at Alafia offers some of the most radical elevation changes in Florida. The off-road bicycling trails are the most challenging in the area. Thoughtful touches throughout (such as wooden bridges and gravel beds at creek crossings) add to the pleasure of riding here. This place is a blast, especially the second section of the Rollercoaster and Moonscape trails. The last couple of miles of Moonscape are on very technical terrain.
9 to5 Race Day #5, Payday Friday / Employee of the Year, 6/5/2004 Southeast Florida. At 1043 acres, Oleta is the largest urban park in the state. A little bit of everything: tight turns, drops, steep descents, climbs, rocks, roots, and bridges, altogether adds up to a really fun ride!. Visitors have a wide choice of additional outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, picnicking, swimming, and canoeing. In addition, Oleta is only minutes from the recreational hotspots of Miami and Ft Lauderdale, and the world-renowned nightlife of South Beach.
