Montreal\’s Peak Centre Cyclothon for Robert Brisson

March 19, 2007 (Montreal, QC) – Yesterday saw Montreal’s Peak Centre hold its cyclothon to raise funds for the bereaved family of Robert Brisson, a former employee at the centre. Brisson was the victim of an unsolved, fatal hit-and-run accident while he was cycling home from the centre on October 20, 2006, leaving his wife and two young children in mourning.

The centre, situated at 6982 Cote de Liesse, was open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday so that visitors could ride on one of the centre’s Computrainers. For a one hour session riders were charged $20 and all funds collected were sent directly to Brisson’s family.

Peak Centre owner, Pierre Hutsebault, told Pedal that 35 cyclists turned up for the Cyclothon, with some riders spinning for more than one hour.

Hutsebault, a former high performance director and executive director of the CCA, added that cyclists are welcome to bring their bikes in to spin from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The centre is closed Sundays. The hourly fee is twenty dollars ($20) and reservations (514-341-7325) are recommended because of the limited number of trainers. Free parking is available behind the centre at the corner of Merizi and Cote de Liesse.

Sunday, March 18, also commemorated the Peak Centre’s first anniversary in business in Montreal (www.peakcentremontreal.ca). The Peak Centre for Human Performance (www.peakcentre.ca) addresses the needs of athletes from many sports and has operations in Ottawa, Victoria, Vancouver, and Montreal. There are also centres in Dublin, Ireland, and in Houston, Texas.
