Montreal’s Jacques Cartier Bridge Reopens to Bikes on Mar. 29

by John Symon

March 29, 2011 (Montreal, QC) – Montreal cyclists are excited and relieved that the Jacques Cartier Bridge bike path, closed for four months during the winter for safety reasons, will be re-opening this afternoon (March 29). Pedal contacted Jean-Vincent Lacroix, Chief of Communications with The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated, to confirm the planned re-opening.

“The bike path will open [Tuesday] at 2pm,” Lacroix wrote Pedal. The new 2.7 kilometre bicycle path, closed since early December, is one of only two means that Montreal’s cycling commuters can use to cross the St. Lawrence River – and the only way during rush hour. Taking bikes on the Metro (subway) system is possible outside of rush hour.
