Montreal World Cup Preview

May 4th, 2004 – It is with great pleasure that the Canadian Cycling Association welcomes the Montreal Women's World Cup and new Tour de Grand Montreal. With this being an Olympic year, Montrealers will be privileged to witness these two events, which will give residents a taste of what is to come next August as the top women in the world square off in the Elite Women's Road race at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Many young up-and-coming Canadians will be showcased and our current top Canadian riders such as Sue Palmer-Komar, Lyne Bessette and Genevieve Jeanson will also be present. The top women cyclists in the world have made the World Cup in Montreal a prominent stop on their cycling calendars. In 2001, the Union Cycliste Internationale awarded the event the Title of “Best Organized Event of the World Cup Series” in recognition of the organization's excellence and prestige. The event organizer, Daniel Manibal, was also individually recognized for his excellent work.

Pierre Hutsebaut, Director General of the CCA confirms that “it is important for Canada to own an event of such high caliber as the Women's World Cup in Montreal. It is essential to have an event of such class and prestige like the World Cup in Montreal so as to encourage the development of women's cycling across the country. It is the highest rated course in North America and we are privileged to host it.”
