Montréal-Boston 2007 Launches Website

January 30, 2007 (Montréal, QC) – The Montréal-Boston 2007 Cycling Tour, making its debut in 2007, and running from August 5-12, now has a dedicated bilingual (English and French) website at www.montreal-boston-tour.com.

The site has background details of the 8-stage, 1,200 km stage race which has a UCI 2.1 license and will draw top calibre riders. Montréal-Boston will also be the first international event to take place after the 2007 Tour de France, July 7-29. Some 20 teams are expected to compete, although no official announcements have been made. When speaking to Pedal last October 2006 event organizer, Daniel Manibal, hinted that T-Mobile could be taking part in the race.

The first four stages will be run in Quebec, but the website provides few details. As previously announced, Chateauguay Mayor, Sergio Pavone, revealed that the first stage would likely start in his city just south of Montreal. Quebec Education, Leisure and Sports Minister, Jean-Marc Fournier, who has been instrumental in obtaining the UCI license, represents Chateauguay in the provincial legislature.

After the race crosses the border, the fifth stage will have cyclists race through Vermont’s Green Mountains from Jay Peak ski resort to Sugarbush ski resort in Warren. Stage 6 will run from New Hampshire’s Franconia Notch State Park to the front of the State House in Concord while the seventh stage will take riders from Manchester, NH to Nashua, NH. Stage 8 will be staged in Massachusetts, beginning and ending at Boston’s downtown Boston Common Park.

The Montréal-Boston Tour will be the last chance for cyclists to gain UCI points for the 2007 Road World Championships and the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008
