April 27, 2007 (Montreal, QC) — The upcoming Montréal Bike Fest – which notably includes the 50 km Tour de l’Ile – is expecting 50,000 cyclists to participate. Velo Quebec has organized four major cycling events around Montreal from Sunday, May 27 to Sunday, June 3. The four events that comprise the Montréal Bike Fest include:
– May 27 – Metropolitan Challenge – 3,000 cyclists riding from 75 to 150 kms
– May 30 – Le Tour De Larochellière – by invitation only
– June 1 – Tour de Nuit – 12,000 cyclists riding 20 kms
– June 3 – Tour de l’Ile – 30,000 cyclists riding 50 kms
The expectation is that 45% of those participating will rediscover cycling and keep doing so after the events.
The family-oriented Tour de l’Ile and Tour de Nuit (an evening ride that is popular with adolescents) were conceived for the general public whereas the Challenge is for experienced cyclists.
The Tour de Larochellière involves a spectacle by singer, Luc de Larochellière, and by other musicians.
The first Tour de l’Ile dates back to 1985.
