August 17, 2003 (Downers Grove, IL) – The men's US Postal Service US PRO Criterium Championship was contested on the same course as last night, fielding a mass of 102 riders and all the major US Teams including Prime Alliance, Saturn, Navigators, 7-UP, Jittery Joes, Colavita Bolla, Jelly Belly, Health Net, Sierra Nevada, Sports Book, LeMond Blender and Fitness and of course, Lance Armstrong's US Postal Service Team.

Hot off yesterday's win of the Pro/Am warm-up, the Navigators team came out firing both barrels.  As the race laps counted down, the attacks were relentless, with many teams looking for an opportunity to shed the field sprinters. Prime Alliance appeared especially keen on keeping the field intact and was willing to bring any breaks which formed back to the field. Saturn's Rahsaan Bahati, confident after his win against the 250 meter sprint against the current #1 in line skater in the world, snatched the mid-race $500 prime.

With eleven laps to go the wind up for the lead-out began in earnest with the deep blue jerseys of the Navigators storming the front.  Hot on their wheels was the line up of 7-UP Team, with last year's Criterium National Champion, Kevin Monahan, tucked safely in good position.  Saturn's Chris Horner was battling furiously for position with Ivan Dominguez, Mark McCormack and Bahati all powering him to the finish line.

Coming into the final corner a crash split the field, but the main contenders came away unscathed and the speed ramped up in the final three corners with all risks being taken for the honor of winning the stars and stripes.

Jumping hard to the finish was Monahan, with Saturn teammates Horner and McCormack straining to come by him.  In the final meters it was Monahan taking control, and cruising across to his second consecutive win of the Criterium title.  Second was Horner and McCormack finished third.
