May 30, 2011 (Dieppe, NB) – Here are the results of the first stage of the 2011 Mike’s Bike Shop Cup held on Tuesday, May 24th. The course was (of course) wet, but many still showed up and braved the tough spring conditions.

Keith Godfrey took the stage and will become the first wearer of the Apogée
leader’s jersey. Daniel Richard and Jean-Richard Cormier completed the
podium.

The series resumes tomorrow evening at 6:30 at Dieppe’s St-Anselme Park.

May 24, 2007 (Dieppe, New Brunswick) – The first stage of the mountain biking portion of the Mike’s Bike Shop Cup cycling series was held Tuesday night at the Dieppe St-Anselme Park. Young Stuart Wight of Hillsborough took the leader’s jersey followed closely by Dieppe’s Mike Leblanc and Jean-Richard Cormier. Next week, because of the handicap system, Wight will move up to a higher category and will have to fight even harder to defend his lead.

For the last three years, we developed a handicap system to have everyone sitting on the same start line with an equal chance to win. So far, this formula has been a success. The calculation is a little different for the various disciplines. For mountain biking, for example, we have the riders ranked A, B, C, or D (and A+ for the Centre’s Giant Elite riders). The A riders get their actual time, as the B’s get a 10% deduction, the C’s 20%, and the D’s get 30% (and the A+ get a 5% penalty).

The Mike’s Bike shop Cup is a series of local races held every Tuesday night at 6:30. Following 3 weeks of mountain biking, we will be hosting some road (time trials and criteriums), track, BMX as well as cyclocross events.

Registration is 5$ a week with a portion of all registration fees going to a charity (will be chosen by the overall winner of the series). Many draw prizes are available every week.

This series is open to cyclists 15 years of age or older. All levels of abilities are welcome.
