September 14, 2006 – Despite the light rain and cooler than usual conditions, nineteen riders took to the start for the final event in Midweek’s Tues. Night Race Series for 2006. Mike Novo, a series regular set off the attacks from the gun, but the pack would stay together in the early part as the pace settled down for a few laps as riders chose to take it easy on the glassy surface of the Buckhorn circuit.

With ever-darkening skies and lightening on the horizon the decision was made to cut the 40 to 33 laps. Chris Atkins (La Bicicletta) and Jeremey Rethzay (Midweek CC) took the opportunity of the shortened race to launch a promising attack, but it would not stick and the pack came back together for the big finale. Atkins finsihed off the season with his well known rocket-fast sprint to take the win while Matt Kings of Hamilton CC came around Midweek’s Jeremey Rethazy for second place.

Chris takes 3rd place in the 2006 Season standings behind his La Bicicletta teamate Heath Cockburn, 135 points and Damian Kurzawinski (ZM Cycling), 89 points.

Thanks to the riders who participated this season in both the Monday Might Learn-to-Race events and the Tues. Night races and made the best of the inconveniences associated with this venue.

Finally and most importantly thanks to Craig Fagan who did the footwork required this spring to secure the venue in time for the season opener and Monday Night instructors Jeff Archbold, Len Ramsay, Bruce Krip and many others and regular volunteers Dan Rothnie and Michelle Payne and to medic Adam Hobbs and his crew for looking after fallen riders.
