Midweek Tuesday Night Races #4
May 16, 2007 – Despite iffy weather over 30 riders turned out for the start of the fourth Midweek Tues. Night races. The organization decided to combine the early and late groups due a lower than usual turnout in both fields.
The threatening skies didn’t slow the pace and resulted in several splits in the group in the opening laps. Newcomer Dan Wood (ERTC) foiled the group to take the first prime. Although some riders defiantly declared they weren’t afraid of a “little lightning” the unfortunate decision was made to shorten the race.
Once again it was Dan Wood who would take the final sprint ahead of Rob Chiocca (Team Jamis) and Mark Polsinelli (Invita Racing).

Midweek Tuesday Night Races #4
May 9, 2007 — Miscreants, malcontents and borderline delinquents; those are the characters you encounter when you venture into the seedy underbelly of the local bike racing culture. Then you add cold, hard cash to the mixture and you have a volatile situation on your hands; for this Tuesday night would be the first of four MCOR CASH POINTS RACES – and all of the local heroes were out.
The “Midweek Rules” for a points race are similar to a usual points race except scoring is based only on points, not on laps. Points would be paid out with dollars and any riders that lapped the field would earn a 10-point bonus.
The night warmed up with the Early Race. Trent Casey took the opening sprint, but with two laps remaining D’Ornellas teamates Scott Moore and Matthew Campbell took a flyer off the front and held off the pack to take first and second in the finale. But Casey’s early sprint wins would be enough to lock up the top spot and Moore would have to settle for second spot.
In the late race the early break established itself only a few laps into the race. This time it would be Sebastian Porten (Aquila Racing), Heath Cockburn (La Bicicletta) and Zach Morris (Jet Fuel). With two laps to go before the second points sprint a large pileup would interrupt the event. It was mostly a case of scrapes and bruises and a few thousand dollars of damage, but hardly a dent when you consider that half a million dollars worth of high-end machines that circle the circuit on a given night.
The race was restarted with 36 laps remaining, with the three leaders extended the 20 sec. lead they had built up before the stoppage. In the subsequent sprint Cockburn and Morris would drop Porten who would return to the field and James Macdonald of Cyclissimo would take 3rd on the sprint ahead of Pete Morse (Jet Fuel) who had been tangled in the crash only minutes earlier.
With twenty laps to go the duo would lap the field and get each be awarded 10 pts, virtually locking up first and second place in the standings. From that point on no more attacks would escape the field but Cockburn once again stepped up to take the field sprint over Dan Lefebvre (Team RACE) and a fired up James Macdonald (Cyclissimo).
