Midweek Tuesday Night Races #14

July 25, 2007 (Mississauga, ON) – For this week’s Midweek Tuesday Night Races let’s join Phil and Paul and Al Trautwig in the the booth:

Phil: Greetings! The question foremost on everybody’s today mind is
“What’s a points race?”.

Paul: Indeed. And the format is as follows. A bell rings every seven
laps signifying a “points lap”, the first over the line scores a maximum five points, four points for second placed and so on, down the line to 1 point for 5th place…and the race is underway!

Phil: There goes the bell for the first of eight sprint laps! The
sprinters are massing to the front, they are using every inch of road
to jockey for position. The judges might not like the liberties the
riders are taking with this course.

Phil: Indeed. At the Midweek’s every inch counts!

Phil: The peloton is swarming like a mass of angry bees. Young Ed Veal makes a charge for it, but it’s Cockbrun taking the sprint ahead of
Lefebvre and Polsinelli comes in for third.

Phil: Amazing Paul! The Tour de France may have a chicken, but the Midweek has a Veal.

Al Trautwig: Hey that’s a pretty interesting looking bike he’s riding.

Phil: Shut up Al.

Paul: And the referees are stopping the race! They are stopping the
race! Apparently the referees didn’t like that last bit of “creative” riding and are re-starting the race after a stern warning, thereby neutralizing the results of the sprint.

Phil: Well that has to be a disappointment for Polsinelli. But the old
dog still has some tricks up his sleeve yet.
