September 10, 2003 (Hershey Centre, Mississauga ON) – Six teams competed in this unusual event – a relay race similar to those held on velodromes. Only one rider from each team was allowed to be racing at a time and changeovers had to be on the wide home straight.
Teams were: La Bicicletta (LB), Pavan A (PA), Pavan B (PB), and three composite teams: Midweek/Chain Reaction/D'Ornellas (MCD), Cervelo/Independent (CI), and ChainReaction/Pavan (CP). The teams were well-matched and results were much closer than last year.
The first 25 minute session was won by LB in 24' 49″, with PB at 3″ and CP at 6″. During the break, there were three sprint heats, with one rider from each team in each heat. The first two in the 3 heats then rode a final, with top 3 finishers getting bonus time deductions from the teams' scores. This worked out well for CP as they had Roy Zucchetto and Paul Greene in 2nd. And 3rd. Heath Cockburn (LB) was a comfortable 1st.
In the second 15' session, five of the six teams stayed together until the last lap, with PB just edging out CI. LB came in for 3rd.
Thanks to Steve Merker from the OCA and his bingo volunteers who helped with the scoring and to Ann Wilson, registration.
