Michael Barry Report – 2004 Road Worlds

October 5, 2004 – Hi Pedal. Well, I raced the Road Worlds in Verona, Italy on the weekend, as many of you know. I felt awesome in the race, probably the most comfortable I have in a one-day race all year. But, cycling is unpredicatable, and with about nine laps to go I crashed at the top of the climb. Basically what happened is another rider turned in front of me when we were on a straight bit of road, and I went flying into the barriers. My bike was not in good shape so I changed bikes and then changed back again after our mechanic quickly got the race bike fixed in one lap. But by then my wounds from the crash were starting to hurt pretty badly so I decided to call it a day. I was disappointed as the course suited me well and all my training prior had gone really well.

I am now finished for the year and am looking forward to healing my injuries and enjoying the off season.
