February 3, 2005 – Orlando native Megan Esmonde has recently signed on with the Colavita/Cooking Light Women’s Cycling Team. Team Manager John Alsedek made the announcement.

Esmonde’s cycling career began through her competition in triathalons. Later she decided to focus on the triathlon’s second leg cycling. Esmonde’s brother, a member of the Orlando Road Club, encouraged her to come out for a team ride, and she quickly excelled. Now 23, she joins the Colavita/Cooking Light team following numerous personal cycling successes: On the national level, Esmonde placed eighth at the Espoir National Road Championships in 2003 and won the under-23 Criterium Nationals in 2004; in Florida, she placed second at the Florida State Criterium Championships.

“Megan will be a great asset to the team this season,” said Team Manager John Alsedek. “Her passion for the sport and her enthusiasm for competition will contribute a lot to the team.”

Esmonde is grateful for the opportunity to compete with the Colavita/Cooking Light team. “I would not trade anything for what I am doing,” she said.
