November 3, 2007 – Young Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos outclassed her rivals to comfortably win the UCI road women rankings for the 2007 season.
After finishing second in the overall rankings last year, Vos took a giant leap forward this year to take out the title with 1325.66 points. Her nearest rival and last year’s winner, Nicole Cooke (GB), finished the 2007 season with 750 points. In third place is Germany’s Judith Arndt, with 709.83 points.
The talented Dutch rider finds herself at the top of the world ranking at just 20 years of age. She is part of a new generation of female cyclists that also includes the young Italian Marta Bastianelli, also 20 years old.
Bastianelli and Vos took gold and silver medals respectively at the 2007 UCI Road World Championships in Stuttgart in September. Vos, who was defending her world title at Stuttgart, won the UCI Women Road World Cup this year and is also European U23 champion.
