February 19, 2007 (Vigo, Spain) – About a thousand marchers hit the streets on Sunday in this city in Galicia, clad in yellow and demanding that Oscar Pereiro (Caisse d”šEpargne) be proclaimed the 2006 winner of the Tour de France reports AFP. Pereiro, who finished second in 2006, comes from Galicia in northwestern Spain.
The 2006 TdF saw American Floyd Landis (formerly with Phonak) win, but later test results showed he had elevated levels of testosterone and the yellow jersey has since been in limbo pending an official ruling. March organizers indicate that they plan to send a petition to the UCI, asking that the 2006 yellow jersey be given to Pereiro.
