January 21, 2008 – For its second year Madrid, will celebrate this astonishing competition, in which the best riders in the world will participate. This year the competition will be celebrated on February 9 at the Palacio de Deportes, an ideal venue not only for riders, but also for spectators, as it is very well situated in the city centre and the outdoor installations ensure the success of the competition.
Lovers of extreme sports will have a compulsory appointment at the first 2008 contest of the BMX Supercross World Cup, suported by UCI International Cycling Union). Madrid will be the first of 6 venues, the others are: Adelaide (Australia), Copenhagen (Denmark), Salt Lake City (USA) not sure at this moment, and Fréjus (France).
This year, Palacio de Deportes will offer an incredible show of sport, lights and sound. With the best urban music, freestyle exhibitions and the Guiness World Record of bike trials high jump will amuse everybody between the diferent rounds of the BMX Supercross World Cup.
The competition will be celebrated in a 360 metres long dirt track, specially designed for this show. It will have a great downhill start at a height of 8m, where riders must pedal very quickly to win an strategic position in the first 100 meters, which will be fundamental to winning the round. The structure of the competition will be with qualification rounds, in which 8 riders will compete in a track with several obstacles like rhythm section, step down, roller, pro double jump, big double jump.
Riders from diferent countries — USA, Spain, Australia, etc., – will come to Madrid to participate in this competition.
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will support BMX Supercross for the first time. Madrid is a very interesting place to enjoy previously the great appointment. BMX Supercross was born in California during the 70’s and it is one of the most radical sports.
