September 19, 2006 — As reported in a release from Louis Garneau Sports, company president Louis Garneau presented a record sum of $11,219 to les petits frères des Pauvres, a charitable organization. The funds were raised by riders in the Cyclosportive Louis-Garneau Cascades where 46 cyclists rode 252 km between Montréal and Québec City.
The Cyclosportive group left from Montreal on August 13 at 7 a.m., followed by the Louis Garneau Montreal-Quebec City Classic at 8 a.m. The first of two pelotons crossed the finish about 2 p.m. with an average speed of 38 kmh. Information about next year’s event will be posted soon at the Louis Garneau Sports website — www.louisgarneau.com
The money will be used to accommodate the elderly at a chalet near Quebec City.
