October 14, 2013 (Pitt Meadows, BC) – Under the lights of the Ridge Meadows BMX Club, Short Track Cyclocross made its debut on October 8 in Pitt Meadows, BC. The evening of cyclocross racing offered a beginner skills clinic, followed by two categories of racing, to challenge the skills of all competitors.
“I am very pleased with our opening night of Short Track Cyclocross,” commented organizer Barry Lyster. “The weather was perfect, and the riders had a great time. I anticipate much larger fields next week .”
The short, punchy course incorporated portions of the BMX track with a more traditional cyclocross grassy section with barriers. “We even utilized a run-up, which the skilled riders were riding, a pump track and a gravel straight-away. All in all, good times were had by all,” added Lyster.
Steve Devantier (Local Ride Racing) won the Elite Men’s race while teammate Maggie Coles-Lyster was the first Elite Women to cross the line. In the New-B category, it was Tyson Kaempffer (Secert Cycles) who took had hard-fought battle in the men’s race while Leah Montgomery held off Laurie Harding (Yess BMX) to take the women’s victory.
The series continues on Tuesday, October 15 at 5 pm, with a beginner skills clinic to be instructed by 2012 BC Cylocross Champion Sandra Walter (Liv Giant). Racing starts at 6 pm.
