September 1, 2006 – According to an AFP report a local resident of Caceres, Spain, lodged an official complaint on Tuesday against the peloton at the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) for breaking the speed limit in his town. The peloton often rolls along at speeds over 60 km/hr whereas the speed limit in Spanish towns is only 50 km/hr. Local police spokesman, César Garcia confirmed that the complaint had been made but that it was considered more of a colorful anecdote for their archives.
Stage 4 at Vuelta on Tuesday was won by German sprinter Erik Zabel (Milram), who finished the 135-km stage from Almendralejo to Caceres in 3:24:46.
