Life of Genevieve Jeanson Subject of Film

by John Symon
December 12, 2012 (Montreal, QC) – A film about the life of former pro cyclist Genevieve Jeanson is among those receiving financial support from the Quebec government according to a press release from the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC). Jeanson, of Lachine, QC, raced from 1999-2005 and was nicknamed “Canada’s golden girl” because of her multiple victories. In 2005, she tested positive for EPO and in 2007 admitted to have been doping almost all of her career. The SODEC release gives no dollar amount for the support.

“This is the story of a female cyclist who needs to make choices while suspicions of doping threaten her career,” reads the release. Starring Laurence Lebœuf and Patrice Robitaille, “Le temps que durent les roses / While roses last” is expected to start filming in 2013, beginning in Belgium. Montreal and Arizona will also be used as filming locations. Producer Richard Lalonde explains that this film is light-hearted and focuses on redemption.

Lalonde is seeking sponsors who want their names and corporate logos put on team jerseys as reported by other media last month. The price is apparently negotiable for this film that the producer expects to see in theatres in 2014. While there is an English title for the film (“While roses last”), it is uncertain if an English version of the film is planned. Pedal‘s inquiries to Lalonde on this subject were not returned by press time.
