LeMond to Run for UCI Presidency

by pedalmag.com
December 03, 2012 – Three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond will run for the UCI President position, according to Reuters Canada. LeMond is a strong and public critic of the UCI, accusing the world cycling organization of enabling the systematic doping of the US Postal Team and others that was recently uncovered by USADA, a scandal that has turned cycling on its ear.

LeMond is a key member of the Change Cycling Now Movement, a group of cyclists, journalists, and businessmen who believe a new and alternative approach is required to how the sport is managed by the UCI. They also believe the implementation of independent anti-doping controls are vital. The group’s focus is that these changes must happen immediately.

LeMond spoke at Change Cycling Now’s recent press conference, stating his intention to run for the UCI presidency.

Current UCI President Pat McQuaid intends to run for a third term.
