August 10, 2008 – Dave Wiens of Gunnison, CO won his home state’s infamous Leadville 100 MTB race, dubbed “The race across the sky.” Wiens beat out cycling legend Lance Armstrong (Austin, TX) to win his sixth Leadville 100, and setting a record time. The two riders distanced themselves from the rest of the field significantly during the race, working together to build a huge gap. However, Wiens pulled away from Armstrong in the final miles of the fabled 100-mile off-road endurance event. Armstrong finished second, followed by Manuel Prado (Lake Forest, CA) in third.
