Laroche Wins Laprairie GP

May 20, 2007 (Montreal, QC) — Yesterday’s 89.6 km Laprairie Grand Prix was won by Jean-François Laroche (Sleeman/Clear TATV) with a time of 2:03:37, followed by Alexandre Cloutier (VW/Trek) and Greg Reain (Calyon/Litespeed), all with the same time. The race was held on an 11.2km road circuit southwest of Montreal.

There were many attempted breaks during the first 40km of the race. André Tremblay (VW/Trek) and Nick Rowe (VW/Trek) were involved in the action during the first half of the race. With 50km left to the finish, a breakaway group of 12 riders pulled ahead, including Alex Cloutier, Keven Lacombe (VW/Trek), Jean-François Laroche, Jamie Lamb (Garneau Croc) and Reain. Because almost all teams were represented in this break, the 12 leaders were in no hurry to distance themselves from the pack.

With one 11km lap to go, three riders pulled ahead: Laroche, Reain and Cloutier. All three crossed the finish together and fought out the final sprint which was won by Laroche. Lacombe came in fourth by winning the sprint among the breakaway group.

Among the junior men, David Boily (Garneau/Crocs) won the 78.4 km race with a time of 1:52, followed by Stéphane Cossette (EVA/Devinci).
