July 05, 2013 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – Human Voyage Sdn Bhd, organisers of Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge (LIMBC), is delighted to announce its partnership with two European teams – UK-based Orange Monkey Pro Team and Germany’s Racing Team Steffen Thum.
The LIMBC 2013 logo and its website address www.mtbmalaysia.com are prominently featured on the teams’ respective kits and other marketing collaterals as Human Voyage bids to make further inroads into the European market.
Orange Monkey Pro Team is one of the most well recognized and successful cross country (XC) Mountain Bike teams in the UK. Formed in 2004, it has Ben Roff, Billy Harding, Jovana Crnogorac, David Fletcher, Rourke Croesser and Mariske Strauss on its stable.
Croeser had a storming ride by finishing 12th in the World Cup series in Albstadt, Germany, recently – his best performance at world level to date, while South Africa’s Strauss put on another solid performance to claim sixth place in the under-23 women’s race in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic in the final weekend of May, continuing her momentum from the previous weekend in Albstadt, where she finished in 8th place.
CEO for Human Voyage, Datuk Malik Mydin, said the sponsorship is line with LIMBC’s bid to brand the Langkawi MTB race on overseas market segments.
“We are happy to be working closely with one of Europe’s top teams in promoting LIMBC,” said Malik.
The race, which will be held in September-October, allows for a perfect end-of-season party and relaxation on an island oozing sun, sand and tranquility, what more Langkawi has been selected as one of the qualifying series of the 2013-2014 UCI MTB Marathon World Championship – the first time it is brought to Asia.
The Langkawi leg is part of the UCI MTB Marathon 2013-2014 Series. The 2013-2014 qualifying legs also include Villabassa (Italy), Sietterstrand (Denmark), Ucka (Croatia), Graz (Austria), Verbier (Switzerland), Jurmala (Latvia), Val Di Fassa (Italy), Obwalden (Switzerland), Langkawi, Ornans (France), Frejus (France) and Punchuncavi (Chile). The 2014 UCI MTB Marathon World Championships will be held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
Team Steffen Thum bears the name of German rider Thum, the overall winner of the 2011- 2012 UCI MTB Marathon World Series, who took part in LIMBC 2012 alongside compatriot Simon Gegenheimer.
Paul Beales, OMP public relations manager, commented: “We are very excited to be working with such a unique and inspirational events team that are pushing to become one of the best competitions in the world. We can’t wait to fly to Langkawi in October and compete in this race for the first time.”
