Lacombe Talks About Success in Copenhagen

February 7, 2007 – Canada’s Keven Lacombe and team mate Adrian Hegyvary (USA) finished fourth overall in the UIV Cup general classification under 25 years at the 45th 6-Days of Copenhagen in Denmark on Tuesday.

“We succeeded in making our mark,” said Lacombe, 21, who is from the small town of Amos, Quebec.

“The last stage (50 minutes) was difficult enough. Let’s say that our legs were swollen,” said Lacombe. “For sure our recent results here can only bring good things in the future. We were trying to gain experience in an American-style event. And we ended up doing better than we expected. We succeeded in making our mark. It was very worthwhile and we’re going to try to come back next year”¦ to win!”

Lacombe-Hegyvary were participating in their second six day track event after one in Berlin, about ten days earlier, and took a gamble that paid off. “That’s it for eleventh place finishes and not taking risks – that doesn’t interest us. We prefer to take gambles and finish either third or thirteenth. The races were short and they went so fast that we were often on the attack because we had nothing to lose.”

During the event, Lacombe had a fall and landed on his leg that was injured last spring (a femur fracture), but he didn’t feel anything. “I was afraid, but afterwards, I realized that my leg was fine. It was a good test because the fall took place at low speed.”

Lacombe’s track season is over now and he is heading to California to rejoin his teammates with Volkswagen-Trek. He will participate at many races in California this March before going to Europe in mid-April where he’ll compete at Liège-Bastogne-Liège race in the U23 category.
