January 20, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Madison pairing of Ryan McKenzie and Zach Bell rose above the controversy that has dogged CCA selections the last few weeks with an impressive ride in their qualifying heat. The pair looked to be in trouble part way through, but battled back into contact with the front of the field.
Going into the last sprint the Canadians were one of only two teams with no points on even laps. Qualifying was essentially a race between them and the Lokomotiv Trade team for the final spot and the Canucks delivered. Bell lead the pair over the top and threw in Mckenzie who snagged third to see them into the final.
Hopefully this is a sign as well that Bell is getting over a sore throat that has dogged him this week.
