January 21, 2007 (Los Angeles, USA) — Sarah Hammer made it three for three, winning the women’s scratch race final with an impressive display of horsepower. Hammer sat near the back of a field that seemed complacent to wait for a bunch sprint. Hammer came over the top with five laps to go, setting so high a pace that none could come around. She was aided in part by compatriot Becky Quinn who swept the wheel for Hammer making life hard for anyone that tried to come over the top. Adrie Visser of the Netherlands came closest, but was unable to come around the American duo and had to settle for third.

Gina Grain finished a somewhat disappointing 18th, finding herself boxed-in for the final rush for the line.

Team R.A.C.E.’s Julia Bradley raced in the second qualifying heat earlier in the day but failed to make the final.

In the women’s keirin final, Shuang Guo (China) made up for her disqualification, taking the bike early on and never relinquishing her lead. World champion Daniela Larreal of Venezuela finished second in front of Jennie Reed (USA).

Great Britain won a drama filled team sprint final ahead of France. Things went drastically wrong for France when Kevin Sireau rolled his front tire, crashing hard. After changing his broken front wheel, the riders retook the starting blocks. France looked good to overcome their misfortune early on, but faded to take second behind the British trio.

Comfirming their dominance as a sprinting nation, the British trade team, ScienceinSpot.com beat out Germany in the bronze medal round.
