July 26, 2007 (Whistler, BC) – Riders here in Whistler took to the famed Whistler A line trail for the Jim Beam Air Downhill on Wednesday. The A line is billed as the most ridden trail on earth and features over 200 berms and jumps and includes two large drops as it winds it’s way down from mid-station.

The freestyle kids lost their favorite trail for a day as the speed specialists tried to stay as low as possible over the jumps to make it down as fast as possible.

Brian Lopes (USA) GT Bikes was the fastest man, as he scrubbed the lip of every jump on the trail and managed to stay lower than probably any other rider in the world can go. It was a sight to behold. Lopes beat out Nathan Rennie (AUS) Santa Cruz Syndicate, Greg Minnaar (RSA) Honda G Cross, Cedric Gracia (FRA) Commencal and Andrew Neethling (RSA) Mongoose to take top step on the podium.

Lopes discussed his run in the air conditioned heaven in the back of the Marzocchi team truck. “My run went good. I had a clean run and didn’t try to go overly fast in the corner. Just tried to be consistent. I rode the course how I practiced it – I didn’t make many mistakes. One jump I got bucked a little on and got nervous but otherwise I had a good run and didn’t bobble. I don’t know that being a top 4x rider gives me much of an advantage on a course like this. It is fast, and the corners get pretty choppy going into them and it’s 4 minutes and 15 seconds. It’s pretty long. I just tried to get in a good amount of practice and be smooth off all the jumps on my GT I-drive 5. For my style I think it works. I am able to stay lower off the jumps”¦ on all the jumps I fell faster on my little bike.”

Canadian Jeff Beatty was the top rider for the host country as he crossed the line in 6th place, an amazing finish against a stacked field. “I didn’t managed to crack the top-5, which is what I really wanted to do. I was fifth (two years ago), but I think the field was more stacked this year. I am super stoked with 6th though!”

For the women, Tracey Moseley (GBR) Kona/Les Gets pulled out another win, going two for two so far at Crankworx. She barely edged out Canadian Micayla Gatto (Rocky Mountain/Haywood) who had a fantastic run and looked smooth on course. ” I had a great run, and I didn’t make many mistakes,” Gatto said about her run. Fionn Griffiths (GBR) Norco, Jenn Ashton (CAN) and Lauren Campbell (NZL) round out the final podium.
