August 09, 2018  (West Carleton, ON) – The final “Sunday” Kinburn Kermesse was held July 29, and it was a huge success. With 22 riders it was our biggest turnout so far. With two more events in the series we hope to keep breaking records.

Riders of note in attendance included Derrick St. John, Natasha Elliott (Van Dessel p/b HyperThreads), Mike Nash (Ride with Rendall), Osmond Bakker (nine2fivepro), Marc Boudreau (The Cyclery), Jesse Jarjour (613 Cycling) and Charlie Gorman (nine2fivepro).

We also made a couple changes that worked well. We decided to allow women to race for FREE and four showed up. We also instituted an informal “B” group that could ride together at a more controlled pace. The pace was fast from the start averaging over 40km/hr. Quite fast considering the first gravel section was redone and was quite loose.

There were many attacks with St. John being the most aggressive. After being caught by Bakker, Boudreau and Justin Purificati, he delivered a strong “in the saddle” attack on the last gravel section and made it stick. St. John took the win with Bakker and Boudreau rounding out the podium.

Purificati was dropped in the finale but he rode all the way from the east end of Ottawa and clocked 211km by day’s end. Actually half the field got 150km+ in after riding out and back.

We had participants from Van Dessel, nine2fivepro cycling, The Cyclery, Ride with Rendall, Tekne, 613 Cycling, Euro Sports, (and some of the former members of the defunct Bandits Cycling Team, now members of nine2fivepro got some more use out of their old uniforms for fun). Cyclists are special people.

The next Kinburn Kermesse is August 15 with the finale on Aug. 29 – hope to see you there.
