Kelso Mountain Bike Race #4 – July 14

release by the Kelso Mountain Bike Race Series

July 13, 2009 (Kelso, ON) – The Kelso Mountain Bike Race #4 is on for July 14. The start/finish line is at the Sunset Day Lodge, Kelso Conservation Area. Register and Warm-up between 5:30 and 6:30pm – the race begins at 6:45pm.

Main Course
We’ve got a new course for Race #4 – twice around a 5.23km loop starting and finishing at the Sunset Day Lodge. Yes – that means two climbs up the escarpment – but we love that, right! We can’t wait to see you all fly past Sunset on your way to the much easier second climb – ask your family and friends to bring out their cowbells to cheer you on, because you’ll need all the motivation you can get to do that climb again. Click here for the link to the new course map and description. The course is already marked with blue markers and we will add caution tape on race day to help define the course. Keep in mind that the trails will remain open to everyone else.

Short Course
The same short course as before (three times around a 2km loop of the bottom of the slopes) will still be in place this Tuesday. However, we’ve added a tasty bit of single track through the wooded section in front of the A-Frame building. It includes a couple of ponds, several bridges and ladders to challenge the Short Course riders. If you are not sure about racing up the escarpment, but would like to give your lungs and legs a great work out, then this course is for you. It’s also perfect for younger riders who may not quite yet have the lung capacity to climb the hill.

Trick Course
Children of all ages are encouraged to come out to the races. We’ve got a wee Trick course with some small features for our younger riders. Adult supervision is required, and although there is a gate fee (free entry if 4 or under), there is no race fee for the Trick course riders. At race #3, we had my two year old on his Skuut™ and a three and fiver year old on their trainer wheels flying around the Trick Course. Brilliant!

MTB Racing for Everyone
The Kelso MTB bi-weekly race series is open to all ages and abilities.
Expert riders, weekend warriors, 1st timers, ankle biters, males and females, granny and granddad – everyone’s invited. You can sign up for the whole series, try a few races or give one a shot. There are great lucky draw prizes at every race and at the end of the series, some lucky people will be going home with some new Smith Optics shades and one person will be going home with a brand spanking new Jamis mountain bike. Now that is a prize!
